I certainly relate to Ygritte in the fact that she is so strong and also ruthless as well and I feel that especially within ‘Game of Thrones,’ I think that as a show, it is one of the frontrunners for showing dominant female characters and making sure that men answer to women rather than the other way around… Nobody’s actually come up to me saying that she inspires them, but she certainly inspires me to be tougher. I’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to the cold. My God, knowing that Ygritte is Wilding to the bone, it was fun to kind of give that a go and to portray that.

it pains me to realize that i don’t really have a summer

its still problematic to get someone whos primarily white to portray a native, and in this case tonto is merely just a racist caricature of native american culture, but i agree with you about how long…

ugh i have so much to say about this that i can’t include this in a reply i’m sorry no not sorry if this stretches your dash

1) first of all yes, i totally agree with you about how white people want to incessantly perpetuate these racist stereotypes. i still can’t grasp why, but i guess it’s partially because they can’t handle the blame and being called out? it’s so horrible and selfish though and then it sometimes even triggers more racist bullshit, like the entire “oh i have non-white friends blah” bullshit. like poc are not your little objects to pull out just to justify your blatant racism. 

2) ugh and don’t even get me started on the hipster thing. i don’t care if you think you’re “appreciating” the culture. if you really wanted to support a culture, instead of parading around in your little “exotic blah  ensemble” why don’t you do something to actually support the community that’s getting stepped on day by day? e.g. buy something from legitimate native artists who are trying to keep their culture alive? your little feather hat doesn’t do jack shit, and it only makes people think that it’s okay to dance around as a “little exotic indian” (i really wanted to puke when writing that phrase) 

3) man i think i drank too much calpico or something i’m so hyped up and i forgot what i was going to say but yeah this is why i feel bad for all the shit sj bloggers get on tumblr. like you said, opening white people’s eyes is supposed to be the way to get all this chaotic bullshit to stop, but there’s so much suppression of that going on, and you can even see it on here. it’s good how feminist views are quite widespread but the moment race is included in the equation it’s like “NO IT’S NOT A PROBLEM GO BACK YOU RADICALIST” but it is a problem. and that’s one of the reasons why it’s still a problem. 

EDIT: oh i remember now! johnny depp is still problematic in this case because he’s still perpetuating this system of horrific portrayals. it doesn’t matter even if he’s slightly native or not, he’s still predominantly white and his character is still absolutely disgusting, even if he thinks this is some sort of way of “saluting” the native community. [x] 

the lone ranger DOES matter as well because although it does not override the other horrible instances that echo in our history (and like you said, it’s definitely important to recognize those faults too), it’s emblematic of how people STILL choose to uphold these problematic tendencies and silence protests from the oppressed. it’s especially sickening to see so many people jump to the defense of the lone ranger even after the horrors of our cinematic history have been called out over and over again.
